What is SMA doing to protect everyone from novel coronavirus?

The health and safety of our members and staff is our top priority. While we have always had daily cleansing procedures in place, we are practicing additional hygiene and cleaning practices to ensure that our academy remains safe. We have increased our protocols to include additional rounds of disinfection for all common areas including: the mat, lounge, toilets, sinks, faucets, flushing devices, coffee area, tables and chairs, door handles throughout the academy, and fitness equipment.

Additionally, hand sanitizers are available in two locations in our academy. The first is located at the front of the academy by the office and the second is located at the back of the academy by the second restroom.

We encourage all members and our staff to follow these best practices to help keep yourself and others healthy:

-Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after going to the bathroom, before eating, and after blowing your nose, coughing, sneezing or before training.

-Parents, please ensure your child washes their hands before class.

-Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.

-Stay home when you are sick (and remain home for 24 hours after symptoms have disappeared if the illness is flu-like or gastrointestinal).

-Cover your cough, or sneeze into a tissue; then throw the tissue in the trash.

-Wear shoes when not on the mat.

-Make sure your gi, belt, and other equipment is washed and clean, and make sure your mouth guard is cleaned and placed in a dry sealed location after training.

SMA has an emergency protocol that would be put in place in the event of a necessary closing of the academy. As always, we will stay on top of the news and make the best possible decisions for our academy.

We will continue to ensure the cleanliness of our academy and the safety of our students. Thank you for working with our team to help accomplish this goal.
